Spring has finally arrived. A few weeks ago the temp was very summer like but today it has plummeted to close to freezing. In fact the forecast is for a low temp of 28 degrees tonight! BRRRRR!
I planted peas about two weeks ago. And they are coming up. I also planted strawberry plants. The berry plants are showing a good start. I had no straw so I mulched them with old hay. So far my ducks have not bothered to poke around looking for bugs or worms in my strawberry patch.
Did I mention that my son Billy has a new 4 wheeler? I took it up in the woods a couple days later looking for wild leeks. The next day I rode it over the hill thru my neighbors woods. In my younger days I hiked the old logging roads on his farm. I loved exploring the wilderness. But now I cannot walk. So I took that 4wheeler. I saw a grouse and later a black bear wandered out on the logging road about 100 yards ahead ahead of me. What a thrill to see a bear in the wilderness! He looked over his shoulder at me and then disappeared.
I continued down the logging road and out into a hayfield. My path took me to the road and I continued to my friend John's home. His brother, Norman, was there. The three of us grew up together from, well I was about 16. Norman was a couple years younger and John was about 8 or 10 years younger. Another brother Terry died a few years ago. And there was a sister Marian a year younger then Terry but older then John.
It was great visiting with Norman and John, except for one thing. John's father in law, Malcom, had passed away a couple days earlier.
Malcom was 89 years old and he loved gardening. The grandchildren and great grandchildren, all who live within a stone's throw of the old fellow took it kind of hard.
